    Hi Martin,

Nice Blog. Just want to know if it is possible to configure service desk to take all the inputs on batch job scheduling like the programs to be executed and scheduling information.

Thanks for starting on this topic.. Was eagerly looking for some blogs in this area.

    Best regards,
    Vithalprasad

      Hi Vithalprasad,

the Job Request comprises (but not limited to) the following informations:
      – Job name and job schedule
      – Programs to be executed by the job
      – Business requirements
      – Related business process
      – Error handling procedures.

If the Service Desk (SD) is already set up, just activate the web dynpro services of job scheduling management. Visit the new IMG activities “Job Scheduling”.

If you want to create or update job documentations automatically during job request processing you will either have to add the relevant actions to the SD action profile or just assign the new template action profile.

There’s also the Process Scheduling Adapter for SAP Solution Manager adding deep SAP CPS by Redwood integration.

      Kind regards,
      Martin

              Hi,

I propose that your or your customer apply for the SAP Central Process Scheduling by Redwood and the Process Scheduling Adapter for Solution Manager ramp-up.

              Go to:
              -> http://service.sap.com/rampup
              -> Ramp-Up Programs
              -> SAP Netweaver
-> SAP Central Process Scheduling by Redwood
You will find the desired date on the ramp-up site: “Target Release to customer: Q1, 2008”.

              Regards,
              Martin

                Dear Martin,

Thanks for updates, but I think this is you are talking about Redwood (SAP CPS) ramp up. Our customer already has 6.0.2 version of Redwood for batch job scheduling and we are looking for integrating its batch job scheduling using Solution Manager.

As stated by you all the job scheduling features will be available in support pack 15 for solution Manager 4.0 version. I want to know when this support pack 15 of solution manager will be released for customers.

                Many Thanks,
                Vithalprasad

    Hi Martin,
Nice blog with very good info.
When concerned about basics of jobs,I got a doubt (This could be a silly doubt).
    JObs are client dependent..Right??
But If see update statistics jobs which update statistics in database,It is not necessary to run them on each and every client?(dev or quality e.t.c)
Could you please clear me in the context of Client dependency.

    Thanks a ton in advance

      Hi Sree,

first of all: Yes jobs can be client dependent and usually its not obvious if a job operates on a client-independent table and need to run only once per system. Therefore transfer this knowledge into your Job Documentation in SAP Solution Manager!

I think you’re adressing three separate concepts:
      a) the client concept
      b) the system landscape
      c) job scheduling
and for each item I have added a link to more detailed information.

      a) and b) are related to the Change and Transport System and SAP recommends a three-system landscape in which each of the central clients has its own SAP System, consisting of a development system DEV, a quality assurance system QAS and a production system PRD.

    Hi Martin,
Recently I have seen few jobs which are scheduled from a remote system are getting delayed by Huge amount of time (on avg 6000 sec).
I checked the Work processes available at that time.I found many WP in waiting state.

      Hi,

jobs come in three different classes (A,B,C) where C means low priority and the default class.

WP come and different flavors: dialog and background processing. WP of type dialog cannot be used for background processing.
Background WP are assigned to job classes and order to realize some kind of “load balancing”.

Example: You have three jobs running in our system and one job is of high priority. You schedule the important job with class A and the other ones with class C.
You have two WP available for background processing. You release one WP for class A ONLY to ensure that the high priority job always has a free WP it can be assigned to You release the other WP for all (or B&C or C ) classes and this WP processes runs all other jobs.

Check the job class and check the configurate of your WPs, especially the background WP.

Start transaction RZ04, select the operation mode and check the number of Bp WPs.
      See also NW documentation:

      Hi,

I forgot to mention the background job analysis of transaction ST13 which provides a detailed view onto WP ressources and allows a root cause analysis.

Transaction ST13 is part of the add-on ST-A/PI.

      Regards,
      Martin

    Hi Martin,

is it possible to import all jobs from a satellite system? From end-user-documentation I understand it’s only possible after manually creating one new jobname and then import it’s job definition. This would mean a lot of manual work also many job informations are already available.

    Regards
    Markus

      Hello Markus,

yes you can import all jobs. The Import application creates the job documentation and imports the job schedule and the job steps.
This application can be accessed via the Job Management work center or the Easy Access menu.
      http://help.sap.com/saphelp_sm40/helpdata/en/a6/40334961144725b445d3021c4bee4b/content.htm

Your are referrign to the possibility to import a job schedule into an existing job documenattion, right? That’s also possible, but quite awkwardly if you want to import many jobs.

      Kind regards,
      Martin

      Hello Sahmad,

in JSM Work Center on view Job Documentation you see the table with the list of all Job Documentations. Select any entry in the table, select button “Job Documentation” -> “Delete”.

Please make sure that you have deactivated the Job Monitoring beforehand as this will – up to now – not be done automatically.

      Kind regards,
      Martin
