peter.ng/blog, a Regional Group Specialist for Mobile Applications, and I have been asked by many on where to find the Mobile Development Kit (MDK) and how to set it up on the new NetWeaver Mobile 7.1 platform.  Since NW Mobile 7.1 is new to everyone, we decided to write this blog together so you can quickly get a feel for the new development environment on which to enhance your Mobile Applications.

Need to setup a development environment to enhance your mobile applications on the new NetWeaver Mobile 7.1 platform?  Here are some easy step-by-step instructions on how to setup NWDS with MDK.  Keep in mind, you also need to install the Mobile Plug-Ins to have access to MDK.

Download the NetWeaver Developer Studio CE:

  1. Go to http://service.sap.com/swdc
  2. On the left navigation bar, expand Download -> Support Packages and Patches
  3. Click on  Entry by Application Group
  4. Select SAP NetWeaver
  5. Select SAP NetWeaver
  6. Select SAP NetWeaver Mobile 7.1
  7. Click on NW CE Developer Studio 7.05 -> Win32

The description indicates that this is NW CE Developer Studio 7.05.  However, the note specifies that it is the SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment 7.1.

  1. Go to http://service.sap.com/swdc
  2. On the left navigation bar, expand Download -> Support Packages and Patches
  3. Click on  Entry by Application Group
  4. Select Additonal Components
  5. Select SAPCAR
  6. Rename the file to SAPCAR.exe and save it to the same location as the NW CE
  7. Open a Command Prompt window and go to the directory of the NW CE
  8. Enter the following at the command line: sapcar.exe –xvf xxx.sar  (where xxx is the name of the sar file).

After you install the NW CE, you need to install the Mobile Plug-Ins in order to get the MDK.  In order to do so:

  1. Go to the same location you downloaded NW CE Developer Studio 7.05
  2. Click on NW Mobile Client Setup 7.10
  3. Follow the instructions in the link to install the mobile plugins
