A look at the BPM Roadmap

Thomas Volmering, SAP AG Product Manager, agrees to give a look at a BPM roadmap and the strategic direction of SAP in the area of Business Process Management, under the “overall umbrella” of Enterprise SOA, the business process platform and SOA technology.

This informative session was part of TechEd clubhouse activities and will be repeated again in Munich.  While the podcast is quite large (88M to download), it provides a valuable guideline to SAP customers and partners.

According to Thomas Volmering:

“Traditionally, Business Process Management (BPM) has been perceived as divided into two distinct “functions”, BPM as a management discipline that helps business organizations standardize and continuously optimize operational processes that have the largest impact on achieving corporate performance goals, and BPM as a technology (or software product) providing IT organizations with a framework of tools to model, deploy and execute processes that include human and system tasks (as, e.g., workflows) or that span across different
business applications and require a broad set of integration capabilities (as, e.g., messaging, transformation, adapter technology; known as EAI – Enterprise Application Integration).
In today’s business world, innovation and strategic business transformation require new methods and software products to differentiate organizations from their competition. The next generation of business best practices require thus an integrated, holistic perspective on business process management (“BPM 2.0 and beyond”).
