SAP Accelerated Data Migration- SAP ADM

The SAP ADM OR LSMW? PROVIDE YOUR CUSTOMERS WITH THE INFORMATION THEY NEED TO MAKE THE BEST DECISION

SAP OFFERS TWO PROVEN SOLUTIONS

The Legacy System Migration Workbench (LSMW) – a mature and proven technology.

and

SAP Accelerated Data Migration (ADM) Tool – a new solution developed to address changing customer needs.

IMPORTANT DISTINCTIONS TO MEET YOUR CUSTOMER’S REQUIREMENTS

LSMW varies the import method based on the legacy application, while ADM provides only direct data insertion in order to minimize system downtime.

ADM includes historical and transactional data, while LSMW primarily covers master data only.

LSMW makes better sense for small data volumes, whereas ADM supports larger migrations.

ADM uses only on Interface the SAP Intermedite Interface “SII” whereas LSWM user have to deal with IDOC’s BAPI’s etc. to run their batch input processe

A LOOK AT LSMW AND ADM

Before customers can capitalize on a software change, they must face data migration issues, which are often one of the main cost drivers. Data migration is not solely an IT effort anymore; but has to ensure a seamless transition without negative
impact on business processes.

A comprehensive data migration, including historical and transactional data, enables customers to immediately benefit from their new SAP® solution and therefore helps save time, reduce effort, eliminate risk, and cut costs.

WHEN IT’S TIME TO MIGRATE DATA, IT’S GOOD TO KNOW YOU HAVE CHOICES

Both ADM and LSMW have been designed and refined to meet specific migration needs – so it’s merely a matter of determining which one is right for your customer’s situation.

Data migration is only part of an overal migration projects and only works with additional comprehensive products succesfully, like data cleansing or tools to migrate system customizing. So it’s amazing to understand what is available to expedite migration activities

          Hi Deepthi,

The tool has been used for several HCM related projects, however ADM delivery has been recently terminated for an indefinite time. I recommend LSMW as an option to migrate data from non-SAP to SAP ERP. It includes similar data conversion functions like field mapping and rules but accesses SAP database via standard interfaces like iDOCs, batch input etc. and uses the transaction layer. I am not aware of a training but detailed documents can be found the on SAP portal.

          Regards
          Chris

            Hi Chris,

Thanks for the reply. Currently we are using LSMW here but i was interested to know more about this tool because its easy to extract historical data also. So i assume that SAP is not providing this tool anymore temporarily ?

            Thanks
            Deepthi

                  Hi Vithalprasad,

Yes will certainly do, we are currently working on it – it is very likely to have something available even more comprehensive by fall 2008

                  Regards
                  Chris

                      Hello Corinne,

ADM will not be available for general availability soon. However as part of the new service offering (please go to)

                      https://portal.wdf.sap.corp/go/datamigration

it might be an option for customer projects depending on their specific requirements (like business content or data volume).

The service offering includes expertice and tools from SAP like LSMW for data upload as well as ETL tools provided by Business Objects for data extraction, cleansing and analysis.

                      Regards
                      Chris

              Hi,

The reason is that due to organizational changes of responsibilities the tool could not appropriately be supported. So we decided to stop the delivery it might be available again when we have the resources to handle it but for now we have to take advantage of LSMW but without the advantages of LSMW like migration of historical data.

      Hi Anil,

The ADM tool is no longer available as an alternative I would recommend LSMW, more details about LSMW are available on SAP Service Marketplace.

      Regards
      Chris
