Don’t miss your arrival into the 2K club!
Ever wanted to track the next hundred or thousand reach?
This is exactly what this Widget is intended for:
A Tutorial-oriented approach
Besides the “utility” aspect of a widget tracking your SDN points, I wanted to show the easyness with which Widgets can be created:
– some images
– a description file (straighforward, nothing to be afraid of)
– a bit of Javascript for handling actions
and that’s it, it is as simple as that!
For people who want to start writing Widgets, you will this Wiki page guiding Widget fans through the process of this simple Widget (compared to other Widgets from Abesh Bhattacharjee or Prakash Darji, thanks to them for showing the path!) creation.
Wiki page on SDN Points Widget
Improvements
Some limited functions are accessible from the toolbar at the bottom of the Widget:
– link to your Business Card
– link to your Details (not completely stable, though…)
Ideas for improvements are numerous:
– little side-panel animation each time your points are increase with the nature and name of the submission (forums, blog, …)
– list of your favorite members along with their own points
– …

Thanks!
I have posted the weblog link in the mentioned thread.

That is indeed a problem.
Check out this blog Widgets for the Enterprise, where it is said that SAP is using them internally.
I guess you could learn from them! 🙂
You should also have a look at this Wiki page where some limitations of Yahoo! Widget are pointed out

This widget is really awesome! -:D First thing I do in the morning is check my SDN points…And your widget makes my work easier -:P
Thanks for this great contribution!!!
Greetings,
Blag.
Love your widget. The thing that will interest a lot of members in the next weeks is whether their points are enough for a free TechEd or Community Day ticket. For that they need to know the points they got since last contest as in from 1st of August 2006 onwards. Don’t think that this is an easy thing to add, but would be on top of my improvement list.
Most people probably have that number in their head and subtract it. Not me. Still like you widget, Mark.
Thanks for the comment.
The issue I am facing with this is that I haven’t found a way (yet) to retrieve information from SDN apart from calling URL and parsing the result.
Should the points system be available through URL (with date range as parameters), this would be possible.
If someone knows a way, I would gladly try to implement with her or him.
Best regards,
Guillaume
Is there any widget which can show you the question you posted on forum or which can show the updated replies on the question which you have posted?
Regards,
Dharmesh
I don’t think there is a specific widget for that.
But maybe RSS could help.
