You may have heard it at Sapphire already, seen it on the SAP Service Marketplace, or even on SDN… SAP NetWeaver 2004s has become SAP NetWeaver 7.0.  SAP’s new release strategy for ERP is based around a stable and long-lived ERP release to which you can add Enhancement Packages as required, giving you innovation without the disruption of frequent major upgrades. In parallel with the new release strategy, SAP has also updated its way of naming releases, so you will find that mySAP ERP 2005 is now called SAP ERP 6.0 and, in particular, that SAP NetWeaver 2004s has been renamed SAP NetWeaver 7.0.   As we transition to the new name, you will inevitably see the release referred to in different ways – SAP NetWeaver 2004s, SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s), as well as the new official name SAP NetWeaver 7.0. Do remember that it’s the same NetWeaver release behind all of these names, and please bear with us while we make the changes!

    Hi Jonathan,

I think it’s a bit late to rename a product, which is out already for a while.
Also it can cause confusion as I already saw term Netweaver 2007, which refered to the upcoming release….Netweaver 7.0 and Netweaver 2007 won’t be the same release, but they sound quite similar 🙁

Anyway, thanks for sharing this info, it’s good to know that what is behind this name.

    Best regards,
    Peter

      Hi Jonathan,

Good to see the naming updates.

Though this information is kept in the latest blog as we see, it takes time for everyone to realize and update themselves with the info.

So here, I came with a thought where you could maintain a proper/fixed place for all these naming convention changes(for that had happened already and which are going to happen). Well, That could be on the left side list soon after entering http://www.sdn.sap.com (where users could see avoiding a search) there by spreading the news in no time avoiding all those misunderstanding and debates that happen around, finding actual names.

Coming back to my subject line..
ECC 4.0 is SAP ERP 2005 & ECC 5.0 is SAP ERP 2006 (as for my knowledge plzz correct if wrong)are these any way related to your sentence “mySAP ERP 2005 is now called SAP ERP 6.0” what are these ERP Central Components (ECC) exactly?? Plzz Clarify…!

      Thanks for Reading!!
      Sapster.

        Hi SAPster,

        Check marketplace under alias /erp:
        http://service.sap.com/erp

There is doc called ‘Transition and Upgrade’, which contains some details about SAP ERP 6.0.
ECC 6.0 is part of SAP ERP 6.0 among other components, such as Industry Extensions, SEM, SRM, etc.

        Best regards,
        Peter

Yeah, too late.  But it does fit in perfectly with SAP’s strategy of random and confusing naming conventions.

Keep up the good work SAP!  If you didn’t make things so, we people wouldn’t get paid so much!
