Organizational Management is used to set up a company’s organizational marketing, sales and service structure. The same organizational structure can be used for different scenarios. It also allows automatic determination of organizational data in a business transaction.

Organizational objects are used for creating an organizational model. The kinds of objects available are – Organizational Unit and Position. Organizational unit is the functional unit of a company. They are automatically created as business partners with the BP role “Organizational Unit”. Positions show the functional task distribution of individual items and they can be occupied by employees.

Attributes can be assigned to organizational units and they are always maintained for a specific function (Sales, Service or Marketing). There are two kinds of attributes – organizational and general.

Organizational Attributes – they indicate the type of organizational unit. Some examples are Sales Organization, Sales Office and Sales Group in the Sales scenario, Service Organization and Service Team in the Service scenario and Marketing Organization in the Marketing scenario.

General Attributes – They define the responsibilities of an organizational unit. Some examples are Distribution Channel, Country, Region, Product Category etc.

The following are the steps in organizational management.

Step 1 – Creating / maintaining the organizational structure

Organizational structure can be created in customizing but can be maintained in customizing or as part of master data. Creation of organizational structure involves creation of organizational units and positions and assigning organizational and general attributes to the organizational units.

Step 2 – Customizing settings for automatic determination

A responsible organizational unit can be added to a transaction either manually or automatically. For automatic determination, certain customizing can be done to find the responsibility through responsibility or organizational model.

During customizing, determination rules are created and these rules can be of type Responsibilities (where responsible organizationalunits are assigned directly) and Organizational Model (where responsible organizational units are determined based on the attributes). These determination rules are then added to an Organizational Data Profile which is in turn assigned to a Transaction Type. In summary, the following are the steps in customizing –

1. Define Determination Rules (of type Responsibilities or Organizational Model).

2. Define Organizational Data Profile (choose a scenario and assign the determination rules).

3. Assign organizational data profile to transaction type.

Step 3 – Automatic Determination in transaction

After the customizing is maintained, when a transaction belonging to the transaction type is created, the corresponding organizational data profile is used by the application and the responsible organizational unit is determined based on the determination rules.
