It has been a while since we started publicly talking about the Enterprise Widget Foundation and based on the communities input we’ve built it.  So why can’t you simply download it now?    In a word: Open Source Licenses.  OK, that’s 3 words, but you get it.  In SAP I’m part of a group that takes ideas and develops them into functional prototypes.  During that process (its a new group, so we’re still learning) I was a little too cavalier with using open source software to save time and now that I want to share it with all of you, I’ve got to make sure we’re following the licensing terms in 30 odd pieces we’ve used from the open source community.  You can only imagine how complex this is for a large (deep pocketed) company like SAP.  So, I’m working as fast as I can to get approval so I can get the Widget Foundation in your hand to play with.    A note to SAP Employees- you can get your hands on this already by going to http://widgets.sap.corp:1080 and following the links to the developer wiki.  In the mean time, I have put up a wiki page that describes exactly what Foundation is.  Please take a look and let me know what you think. Thanks, Eric

Well, sooner or later the foundation will make it out of the shadows, I for one am certainly interested to see how it all works.  Wrapping native libraries across platforms ( JCo calls on both Mac and Windows ), widget collections… neat.
Any clue on what license the foundation will be released under ( translation can i look at the foundation’s source code )?
