Success brings with it a strain on the systems. With us now being a 600K super active community, we have maxed out some of them. It is time for an upgrade. It will happen tomorrow Friday the 10th of November. As with all upgrades there may be some bumps in the road. Please be patient with us. Thanks.  It is mainly a NetWeaver’04 migration.  For all your RSS junkies we offer now RSS feeds for topic home pages too, in addition to our forums, weblogs and wiki feeds.   One very interesting addition is the enhancement of the Top Contributors reporting: You will be able to check out who is the top contributor in your country.   The date range can be adjusted, questions like who is the top contributor in Business One since the beginning of the year you now can answer.   One thing that will probably spark some discussion is the expansion of the Top Company report. You now can drill down into the company to see where the points are coming from. If you drill down into Yorktown.com it will show that the points are mainly from Rich Heilmann.   We also worked on our search, the performance should be improved, by implementing faster permission checks, cached queries on user basis.  We also improved searched results accuracy, indexing and a better use of Boolean operators.  General performance and stability improvements where also implemented:  Improved forum home page performance, reduced SAP Network home page sizes, SSL Accelerator got implemented.   We upgraded our forum software Jive to the release 4.x too. There we are hoping for the biggest improvement in performance, as with our 2500 posts a day we had maxed out the old version.   By the way the success of Jive forums in SDN has lead to tighter integration with NetWeaver and an OEM agreement with them.   One thing we know already that will be broken for a couple of days is the connection form the Weblogs to the point system. One reason I am posting this blog before the upgrade 😉  We didn’t get that portion finished in time, but know that we will eventually catch up. So be patient with that one.   Overall we hope that this upgrade will make this site faster and more useful to all of you and give us some room to grow. Enjoy.

    Hi Mark:

It’s nice to see how the SDN team works to make our lives better and easier -:)

    >You will be able to check out who is the top >contributor in your country.

Hehehe…I’m going to be number 1 of Perú I’m sure -:) The sad part…we are going to be just 4 or 5…Still, a great improvement -;)

    Greetings,

    Blag.

      Hi Blag,
Of course you are number one in Peru. If everything works out you can even select a couple of countries and check whether you are number one in the whole of  South America too.
      Let’s see tomorrow, Mark.

          >so will there be an award for Blag? may be an invitation to the Teched07..

Hehehe…Believe me Suresh, all the SDN team have been always nice to me -:) Specially Craig, Mark and Andre -:P The big problem is that I live far away and with all the work…Most of the time it’s hard for me to attend SDN or SAP events…Still, I’m going to be at TechEd and SDN Day 2007 no matter what, so I hope we can meet -:)

Mr. Continent? -:) I really like how it sounds -:) First thing in the morning…Check that and post a blog on my personal blog -:D

          Greetings,

          Blag.

    Hi Mark,
Great! SDN is definitely faster than before and I like the new design and speed.
I have noticed a behavior which looks like a bug on the contributors list page. Perhaps you could pass it on to the appropriate team to rectify.

When you go to the ‘Complete list’ of top contributors, you are given a dropdown option to choose between points during ‘Last 30 days’ and ‘Points all times’. Last 30 days works fine, but Points all times work ok only for the first page. As soon as you navigate to the second page, the dropdown goes back to the default ‘Last 30 days’, hence you will not be able to navigate any further.

Anyways, keep up the good work,

    Cheers,
    L Menon

IMHO there’s quiet a number of bugs in the new portal. I think SDNwants to challenge the communities beta testing qualities.

      Just to name a view:

      – Forum post do not line-break correctly. Some lines are much broader than the screen and there isn’t even a horizontal scrollbar

      – PageUp and -Down keys don’t work

      – I loose my session even more often than before

      – browsing the new top contributor area, I recognized a number of strange effects, e.g. selecting a company and getting the results of another one

First of all, good luck and thanks for the SDN. I wondering if there is an overview of the hardware you use to operate the portal. It would be nice to see how the SDN realize this amount of users.

    Kind regards,
    Thomas Bendler
