The portal drive allows you to work with documents on the Portal the same way you work on any Windows drive. The portal drive’s primary function is to map folders in the Portal as local drives. It also offers many other features and advanced functionality.  You may not always have an internet connection available to you. The portal drive has an offline feature that allows you to access any file or files that you recently accessed or marked as Always Available Offline. The portal drive automatically synchronizes your offline work with the server next time you connect online. In addition, you have the ability to synchronize your files manually. If you have edited a file that has also been updated on the server since you last synchronized, you will be prompted as to what actions to take (i.e.: overwrite, save your changes to another location or to discard your edits)  The portal drive is primarily used through Windows Explorer. Standard drag and drop functionality is supported. In addition, you can share files and folders, lock files and work with versioned files.  As of NW2004s SP 06 and NetWeaver 2004 SP15, the UI command Map Portal Drive is available for the KM user interface. In other words, you can integrate the command in the context menu for folders. This will enable users to easily access the folder content in Windows Explorer.  To learn more about the working with folders in Windows with the portal drive please go to: sap.help.com
