As indicated in the Functional Enhancements Schedule BI in NW2004s document found in the SAP Service Marketplace (service.sap.com/bi), the Pattern Wizard is available for SAP NetWeaver 2004s as of Support Pack/Front End Patch 9.

However, in SP9 this option is currently not switched on by default in the BEx Web Application Designer. You will see in the Pattern Wizard online documentation that you should be able to select this feature by selecting Web Template > New. This function is also executed with Ctrl+M, which would be indicated to the right of the menu option as illustrated below:

This menu option initiates the “New Template Dialog”, which allows you to create a pattern or new Web template. One of the options would be to start with a blank Web template. This is the new template dialog:

By default, though, in SP9 the Web Template > New (Ctrl+N) function is provided instead. This function opens a blank Web template directly. To see the new Web Template > New (Ctrl+M) option within the BEx Web Application Designer, you will need to access transaction RS_FRONTEND_INIT in the backend and update the SERVER_VERSION to 70009. Please see SAP Note 985119 for details on this correction.

As indicated in the SAP Note, because of some other corrections, it is strongly recommended to use this feature only once you are on FEP 902, which is planned on or around October 10, 2006.

Please note that, after making this change in the backend, you will no longer see the Ctrl+N option in the menu path. If you want to directly access a blank Web template for design (without going through the dialog), you can still access this via the New icon on the toolbar or by selecting the "Create New Web Template" button:

The “New Template Dialog”, with the Pattern Wizard, is only available from the menu path.
