This year at SAP TechEd '06 in both Las Vegas and Amsterdam , you can learn how to quickly setup a fully configured SAP system landscape to build your eSOA development environment in the hands-on session, ULM 250 "Build Your Enterprise-SOA Development Landscape

Developers like you create amazing reports, interfaces and composite applications, but what are you developing them for? If you're using the SAP NetWeaver platform, the answer is that you're PROBABLY developing something for mySAP ERP, or other SAP Business Applications. Or, you might be creating brand-new web service based or enterprise SOA based composite applications, or interfaces with 3rd party or legacy solutions. However, if your focus is technical, it can be tough to build up the functional application landscape and configuration you need to develop and test your projects with.

What will you learn at this session?
In this workshop you’ll get hands on experience an learn how you can get the business process expertise from thousands of experienced business consultants and customer projects in one package containing the SAP Best Practices SAP Add-On and a documentation CD, at no additional charge.

Find out how to setup 'functionally' complete landscapes faster...When your company asks you to build a development environment, your functional / business analysts at your company may not have time to help you setup up your development landscape. Or, maybe you're a new SI, or a new customer that doesn't really have a ready sandbox handy. Whether you're an SAP Partner, or in the IT, BusX team at an SAP customer, this situation can apply to you…

Sound familiar?

If this sounds like the challenges you face when setting up a new development landscape or prototype environment, then tools like the free SAP Best Practices preconfigured solutions or the SAP Discovery System for e-SOA can provide a tremendous jumpstart. SAP Best Practices are a suite of preconfigured solutions that can be automatically or manually installed in SAP applications – based on business scenarios.
Some examples of what we mean by "a business scenario" includes scenarios such as...

  • An SAP ECC 6.0 based scenario, Cash Management or “Procurement of stock material”
  • Or, an SAP NetWeaver BI scenario, “Cost Center or Inventory Planning”.
  • And, for our new mySAP CRM 5.0 based release, "Sales Activity and Opportunity Management" or "Service Order Management"

  • The end result you get is a working SAP environment to develop in for your SAP application, you industry, and your region (mySAP ERP, mySAP CRM, SAP NetWeaver etc.).

Workshop agenda and exercises includes...

During the workshop, you'll get hands-on experience with "personalization" tools that help you refine the configuration settings prior to activation in mySAP ERP, and then use those settings to activate the SAP Best Practices in SAP ECC 6.0 environment (the latest release of mySAP ERP).

The workshop will have both individual and group interactive hands-on exercises which will provide a collaborative learning experience. You'll also learn how SAP Best Practices solutions can be used to setup a broad SAP application landscape, and, how they're used in the SAP Discovery System for eSOA and how you can leverage them both together, or how the SAP Best Practices on their own can be used with your existing hardware.

So what are SAP Best Practices?

SAP Best Practices are a suite of preconfigured and predefined solutions for provides you with a suite of tools to help you with this, as well as some practical content for other business scenarios that leverage the SAP NetWeaver platform. Over 20 SAP partners provide direct input and consulting expertise in the creation of the SAP Best Practices, and over 30,000 copies of SAP Best Practices have been delivered and supported since 1998.

With ongoing input from both customers and partners, the SAP Best Practices have gone through major innovations to include more capabilities for automated personalization of business configuration, as well as improved flexibility to only activate specific business scenarios. This translates into saved time by only activating the configuration you need.

Where else are SAP Best Practices used?
In addition to providing the foundation for accelerated SAP implementations for smaller companies and subsidiaries, SAP Best Practices also provide the mySAP ERP configuration (SAP ECC 6.0, and SAP NetWeaver BI) for the SAP Discovery System for eSOA (enterprise services oriented architecture).
