What Is SAP Event Management and Why implement It ?

SAP Event Management – What Is It?

EM is part of the SCM Suite of Solutions, initially called SCEM – Supply Chain Event Management, the solution is now called only Event Management. The rationale behind this is that EM is being used to track and trace not only supply chains, but other processes and activities.

Definition

AMR defines Supply Chain Event Management as, an application that supports control processes for managing events within and between companies. It consists of a set of integrated software functionality that supports five business processes: monitor, notify, simulate, control and measure supply chain activities.  The next question that comes up is why implement Event Management and the reasons are:   – Improved customer service – Increase visibility and efficiency – Allow for managing by exception – Reduced time to action – Less Fire fighting – Tight integration between events and schedules – Less need to buffer inventory – Effectively outsource non core process.  : Fewer lost sales and more accurate order promising – Built in bench marks and performance indicators

Real World EM Example

– A purchaser is automatically sent an email when a key material is delayed.  Now that you know what EM is, look for future blogs to cover more details on the solution and its applications.
