EM is part of the SCM Suite of Solutions, initially called SCEM – Supply Chain Event Management, the solution is now called only Event Management. The rationale behind this is that EM is being used to track and trace not only supply chains, but other processes and activities.

AMR defines Supply Chain Event Management as, an application that supports control processes for managing events within and between companies.
