A big thanks to everyone for their comments on my earlier post, I sure hope that I can address some of the questions raised in my upcoming blogs. As promised, this post will cover the technical aspects of xApp Analytics, so let us begin and cover these aspects in a Q&A format.     What is the development environment for xApp Analytics?  The development environment for creating a xApp Analytics application is Visual Composer (VC) for NetWeaver 2004s. Visual Composer is a web based visual modeling tool that allows users to create sophisticated content without writing any code! Yes, that is true; the tool generates the code for you! One of the goals Visual Composer attempts to accomplish is to be a rapid development and prototyping environment. The tool is geared towards business process experts who understand business processes within an organization.    Visual Composer is delivered as part of the Enterprise Portal (EP) usage type of SAP NetWeaver 2004s.    Visual Composer allows you to create “composite” applications i.e. applications that stitch information together from different source systems, SAP or non-SAP, transactional or analytical. In any other development environment it could take weeks or months to develop an application that displays information from say a CRM system, a SCM system and an analytical source. Visual Composer can create these applications in a SNAP! The 100+ xApp Analytics applications that we have built in less than a year’s time provide the proof points. More importantly NOT a single line of code was written to develop any of these applications; these applications were built by people like me who are NOT software developers.    What steps are involved in creating these applications?   | |
