Modification Management with Java Applications (SAP TechEd ’06 session ULM350)

With SAP NetWeaver and mySAP ERP, SAP now provides a huge amount of standard business applications built on top of the SAP NetWeaver Application Server for Java. To fulfill individual business requirements, customers sometimes need to modify and extend standard SAP applications. Custom development is not the only challenge when implementing modified systems, there is also an impact throughout the entire software lifecycle when applying support packages and upgrading the system.

This hands-on workshop discusses the best practices on custom developments as well as the modification management process using SAP tools for applying support packages and upgrades. During the session you will learn how to change a standard JAVA EE application for the SAP NetWeaver Web Application Server based on the customer's modifications in order to adjust them after applying a standard support package is demonstrated.

We will become acquainted with the new SAPInst integration, JSPM and the SAP NetWeaver Development Infrastructure (NWDI). During the session we will also learn about modification management of support packages and upgrades via tools like JSPM and SAPJup via the NWDI framework. An overview of custom development will be provided including what defines a “Software Component” (SC), SLD Export etc. all within the NWDI framework. You will also get an overview of our current “Best Practices” scenario which will include XSS, Model Merger and CRM.

If you have any suggestions to add to this “hands on” session you can email them to: Yu-Nong Zhang (y.zhang@sap.com)

We look forward to seeing you at either SAP TechEd ’06 Las Vegas or at SAP TechEd ’06 Amsterdam
