Remove *INTERACT Memory Pool on IBM i5/iSeries
As SAP requires little interactive activity on IBM i5/iSeries, it is recommended to remove *INTERACT memory pool and leave more resources for *BASE memory pool, as mentioned in Note 428855. The procedure is developed also based on OSS message 581561. First, logon through the console, or logon through a regular session then TFRJOB JOBQ(QCTL), so your session would be running under QCTL subsystem. Second, change the description of the QINTER subsystem with CHGSBSD SBSD(QSYS/QINTER) POOLS((2 *BASE))
Third, make sure there is no active session under QINTER subsystem. You could check with WRKACTJOB SBS(QINTER). Fourth, restart QINTER subsystem ENDSBS SBS(QINTER) OPTION(*IMMED) STRSBS SBSD(QSYS/QINTER) Last, verify that the change has taken effect. You should be able to start regular interactive sessions like before, notice that *INTERACT memory pool no longer exists in WRKSYSSTS.
And WRKSBS shows that QINTER subsystem runs in pool 2 (*BASE).
It is all set. Same approach can be used to remove *SPOOL memory pool. Pleaes note that because the QINTER subsystem description is an object under QSYS, OS/400 release upgrade may restore the default values delivered by IBM.
