Let us assume you use business workflow in your SAP application systems.  Users access their workflow tasks via universal worklist in the SAP NetWeaver Portal.  When a user receives a task, for example, approve purchase requisition, the user needs some help before approving the purchase requisition.  At this point the user can create a collaboration task to start an ad hoc, self-defined process.  Beginning with NW04, SPS15, collaboration tasks can link to the business objects.  So, when the user creates the collaboration task for the purchase requisition, the purchase requisition object can be tied to the collaboration task.  Here is an example of how this can work.  In this first graphic you see a task to release a requistion in my UWL.    This business workflow task is from an ERP2004 system.  On the bottom right of my UWL is a 'You can also' section.  In this section I select to create an ad hoc request.  That enables us to create a collaboration task.   Notice the "Display Link To Business Object" in the task.  This is new in NW04 SPS15.  This means that the business object display method, that is natively embedded in the workflow task, will be passed on to the collaboration task.  The task is created and sent on.  The next graphic is the collaboration task in my universal worklist. When I select this task I can view the business object via my "You can also" menu. When I select "View Business Object" a new window appears and I can see the business object.  There is only one small prerequisite for this new functionality to work.  It should default to the correct setting, but just to verify, go to System Administration - System Configuration - Universal Worklist & Workflow - Workflow. The workflow engine has a parameter called "Enable Link To Business Object".  This should defaut to true. This is great new functionality for collaboration tasks.  I can create my own ad hoc steps and pass on the business object for my colleagues to review!  Give it a try!
