To all of you listed above: Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! Your contributions make SDN what it is. Speaking on behalf of the whole SDN Team and the whole SDN community: We are very greatful for all the things you do here.

The list of flags shows how diverse the number one development area contributors are and it only represents where these people are working now, not where they are born.

Cut off day for this year’s SDN contest is again a week before the SAP TechEd in Vienna: Friday the 16th of September. This time “High Noon” 12 o’clock pacific standard time we will stop the counting. I don’t want to keep an eye on the statistics until midnight on a Grande Finale 🙂.

We have some great prizes for the overall Top Contributors that we are going to announce very soon. Please be patient.

The top three in every development area will get a gift certificate for the SAP shop: First place €100, second place €50 third place €25. If you live far away from the mother ship in Walldorf, don’t despair, we pay for the delivery of the prize you select. You will also get a certificate and a pin that will state your rank and in which development area you did your great work.

The number behind the three names listed is the one to beat today to be in the winner’s circle. (By the time you write this most of these numbers are probably higher already).

Interesting questions until the 16th of September:

  • Who will get the most pins?
  • Will Craig pass me in the SDN General section?
(Probably has already, once his points are merged from his old user)
  • Will Shai hang on to spot number three in the ESA area?

Only time will tell.

P.S. I know many will be tempted to change the “Points Development Area” Weblog association. Don’t. It would only work if you set your post to draft changed the association and put it back to final. This way your post would be back on top of the most recent weblog list again. No one wants that.

    Hi,

    I have one question .
Most of my contributions are in WebDynpro forums. But those points are getting added to the WebAs technology and not under WebDynpro.
    Why ?
When we have seperate category for WebDynpro ,why those points are added to the WebAS technology.

    Please let me know 🙂

    Thanks & Regards, Anilkumar

If you earn your points in the forum then they are added there. If you earn your points in Weblogs then it’s a matter of where you “Points assigned to category” however, as Mark said please don’t change that now as you will end up with all your weblogs back at the top of the list and no one wants old weblogs just all poping up to the top again.

      Hi Anikumar,
We checked again and yes the Web Dynpro forum point allocation is currently still going to Web Application Server instead of Web Dynpro.
We will correct that and let you know once it is fixed.
      Thanks for pointing this out.
      Best, Mark.

        Mark,

I think the problem is more complex: forums (as expertise area) are hierarchical, but contribution system operates over plain category list.

Well, I found out this bug and reported to SDN.
Am I getting any extra points for that 🙂

    Cheers

      Hi Sudhir,
      > This way your post would be back on top of the most recent Weblog list again.
There are cases, when you do a mayor update of a post, and you want people to know about it, that you want your post to be on top of most recent Weblog posts. One can do that by setting the post briefly to draft and back to final. It is a feature. I admit usability could be improved 🙂
      Best, Mark.
P.S. If you don’t want to update your Weblog post without getting a new date stamp, just edit and save it without putting it back in draft mode.

I agree with this argument, But in this case 40 points are also credited again (the way it happened in my case). Is it mandatory 🙂

        Cheers

Until yesterday, under “Points since last contest” one could find, as you wrote, Mark, the “Top Contributor list since our last big contest of the 24th of September”.
Today it has completely changed to “Points since last contest on the 21.02.2005”.
Which one holds now?!? Did you change the criteria?
    Best regards, Detlev

Yes, 24th of September 2004 is the start day of the contest and in the Top Contributor list it is set back this date again. Best, Mark.

    Hi,
When one could see from yesterday’s Mark Blog “Prizes for Top Contributors” it was mentioned that Top 20 contributors of last year and it took to the Top contributors page.

But today it was changed to Top 20 contributors of this year and cut off date was mentioned as Sep 16 2005.

Do you have one or two contests including last year (points from Oct 24 2004 to till date).

    Regards,
    Guru

      Hi Guru,

Sorry for the confusion. There is one big contest with a lot of prizes. 83 if I counted correctly (top 20 and top three in the different development categories). Thomas Jung will for sure get a couple and rightly so.

We want to celebrate and honor all the great content that was added to SDN in the last year. Therefor we count from last year’s contest cut off: 24th of September 2004 until the 16th of September 2005.

All the points gathered during that time count.

      All the best, Mark.
