Netbeans 4.1 is a fully-featured Integrated Development Environment (IDE) with support for Java applications development. This IDE comes bundled with a lot of features. It also has servers bundled to it. It takes some simple steps to configure other servers to it. This weblog explains the steps to be followed to configure the MaxDB Database Server with it so that it can be used as backend for web applications.

1. Add Drivers

The first important step is to add the required drivers of the MaxDB JDBC drivers to the Netbeans IDE. After opening the IDE following this path to locate the Databases.

Once this is done give a name to this driver for our reference and then click the OK button.

2. Establishing a Connection

After the above given steps are completed we can establish a connection to the database server easily. Now we can see the MaxDB server in the Database node, right click it and choose Connect Using option.

This will display a new dialog box for providing other connection parameters. The connection URL, user name, and password is to be entered and click OK to establish a connection.

3. Manipulation and Executing Queries

Once a connection is established it is easy to perform all sorts of database manipulation tasks. The established connection will be displayed in the Database node. We can easily navigate the tables, views etc in the instance.

Now it is possible to use this IDE to perform all sorts of database manipulation tasks on the server.

Further, for any web application that uses MaxDB or any other database the above given steps are mandatory. Hope this was useful for those who want to Netbeans and MaxDB.
