The solution was implemented for a company in Hi-Tech Industry. Objective  was to determine which ‘Sold Products’  are ‘Risky’ from a business perspective (having fewer  discrete customers and unpredictable selling pattern). Such a ‘Risk code’ would influence planning strategy , stocking policies and liability agreements with customers.  A complex query  was used to determine ‘Risk code’ for all Sold products (two levels of Risk –Global and Sales organization level). APD (3.0B – transaction RSANWB) utilized to write results to a transactional ODS. Material master in R/3 (Sales and Basic View) was update by calling a BAPI. User was allowed to maintain ‘risk code’ (Planner could view ‘Risk code’ in MRP screen) in  R/3.  As a last step BW material master was update with latest Risk code from R/3 . Reporting on Billing, Sales order, Shipments, Inventory, Opportunities (from mySAP CRM), Demand planning data from APO, POS data (from files) by Risk code made possible . Possible use of this code in APO for planning .  Apart from the technical solution, it took a lot of time and effort to come up business model to identify such items. Results using APD revealed some aspects of the health of business , that was not know to the organization …………and so on
