Collaboration

SAP Enterprise Portal offers collaboration features like Team News, Team Calendar, Task Assignment, Online meetings, Team Discussion, Instant Messaging,   Chat, Contacts List, Application and Desktop Sharing, Document sharing and Collaboration rooms. Lotus suit can also be integrated with SAP EP.

WebSphere Portal family comes with Web Sphere Portal Enable and Web Sphere Extend.

Basic collaborative portlets and features are available with WebSphere Enable. Advanced collaborative services and features are included in IBM WebSphere Portal Extend on integration with Lotus Notes, Lotus Sametime, and Lotus QuickPlace technologies. Advanced collaborative features such as synchronous and asynchronous communication that include email, instant messaging, discussion forums, team rooms, shared calendaring, using the whiteboard, and so on are available on integration.

Content Management

The features of Content Management are Document Explorer, Taxonomies and Classification and Content Exchange, Quick Poll Management, XML Forms Builder and Reports. Lotus suit can also be integrated with SAP EP. Interwoven which enables portal users to access relevant, accurate and timely business content can be integrated with SAP EP.

The features of Web Sphere Content Management are Ordering and Filtering of contents, Rich-text editor enhancement, Deleting/Moving/Versioning Multiple Object, Managed reuse of portal documents, Workflow enhancements such as LDAP groups for WCM workflow, Enterprise user management and directory support. Interwoven can be integrated with websphere portal.

Interoperability

SAP EP supports WSRP standard and is a JSR 168 – complaint which allows the WebSphere portlets to be integrated with SAP EP.

WebSphere supports WSRP standard and is a JSR 168 – complaint which allows the SAP iViews to be integrated with WebSphere Portal.

Integration

SAP EP can be integrated with                             a) IBM Tivoli Access Manager for external Authentication of the users.

b) IBM Security Way Directory for storing user data persistently.

c) IBM Tivoli Business System Manager for single point control to Business Systems Management.

IBM is working out on integrating SAP Enterprise Portal capabilities into Web Sphere Portal.

Legacy System Support

Supports Legacy Systems access through SAP XI , JCA

Authentication Mechanisms support

Supports anonymous users. SAP EP uses SAP logon tickets for SSO. It also supports JAAS   for authorization and authentication.

Web Sphere Portal Security is based on WebSphere Application Server Security. It uses Tivoli Access Manager and Identity Manager for advance authorization and authentication features. It supports SSO and JAAS.

Multiple Portal Administration

Multiple autonomous portals – one logical port, Global Content sharing and user directory sharing are planned for next release of EP.

WebSphere Portal supports Virtual Portalisation which allows partitioning of an existing installation into logical ports. This enables simplified administration of multiple portals

Personalization

SAP EP supports Portal Personalization, Page Personalization and iView Personalization

WebSphere Portal Personalization interface consists of three portlets Personalization Navigator, Personalization Editor and Personalized List.

Internationalization

The Portal Runtime provides access to Standard Java Internationalization Mechanism

WebSphere Portal supports Standard Java Internationalization Mechanism.
