I had the request to create some PDF-files within a Web Dynpro application, so I started to deal with the Adobe Document Services.

This blog will guide you to the installation process.

First of all, get the following files / documents / notes.

ADS Installation & Documentation Guide at Adobe Quicklink . Navigate to "Media Library / Documentation"

    1. order your credentials by opening an OSS-message at BC-SRV-FP according to note 736902

    2. Be sure, that you use the correct(!) Acrobat Reader version on your client. It must
be 6.0.2, which is available at Adobe Reader Archives . At the moment, Acrobat Reader 7.x is not supported, it will be with SP11.

    1. get the ACF file from note 766191 for your SP-release and install it after your Acrobat Reader installation on your client.

make sure, that you have installed the Java Crypto Toolkit, you'll need for applying/using the credentials-file, you've ordered earlier. It's located here.

get the ADS-installation files at Download Center . You'll need at least part 51030723_1 (ADS) & 51030843_Now, you can follow the instructions in the InteractiveForm tutorial at SAP Help .

My main problem was the correct Acrobat Reader Version. I supposed to be at latest patch level, because the automatic online update didn't find any updates for my version. And I knew, Version 7.x isn't supported yet. So, to find the correct version at Adobe (see above) was a bit challenging... 😉

I was lost in the server logs / traces that are full of warnings / errors which were not really the problem at all (or are the follow-ups), for example:

    1. XMLFormModule default.trc: Exception while getting property - received com.adobe.service.NoSuchPropertyException: IDL:com/adobe/service/NocSuchPropertyException:1.0 for property ConfigXML.

Server.log: #0#0#Info#1#com.sap.engine.services.jndi#Plain###Path to object does not exist at wsclients, the whole lookup name is webContainer/applications/sap.com/tcwddispwda/webdynpro/dispatcher/wsclients/proxies/sap.com/ tcwdpdfobject/com.sap.tc.webdynpro.adsproxy.AdsProxy.#</li>
