So I was loitering around in my Netweaver Developer studio the other day and I came across something pretty sweet. The Metadata Comparison Tool. It is actually pretty straight forward and allows you to compare two different set of metadata within any of the following projects: J2EE, Dictionary and of course Web Dynpro. These projects can then be compared and contrasted for differences whether or not they are mapped to the same apllication.
Within the Comparison tool you are actually looking at the metadata side by side. So it is very easy to find what you are looking for. The display is broken up into nodes. Main Nodes and of course Sub Nodes. To get to the model entities all you have to do is open the various nodes in both projects that you are interested in comparing. A green ball differentiates the Main Nodes from the Sub Nodes in each metadata set. Your two open projects are viewable in a tree view and the parameters are displayed underneath the tree in an easy to read properties table.
Arrows on your top right of the tool allow you to scroll search through the metadata. You can also print a local XML copy of all the delta information that you find within your two projects.
The tool also steps you through some options if there are differences in the metadata. I know sometimes I am easily amused but this is pretty slick and I urge you to check it out the next time to need to compare metadata.
