The Day 1 activities of SAP TechEd '04 in Bangalore started yesterday at the fairly new and scenic SAP Labs India campus whose beauty is augmented by the pleasing Bangalore weather. Bangalore is truly an air-conditioned city with temperatures ranging between 18-24 degrees Celsius. And locals tell me that it stays that way all the year round!

SDN Clubhouse

People started coming in at 11:00 a.m. to register and visit the exhibition center. There was a lot of activity in the SDN Clubhouse while the people waited for a good three hours between the registration and the start of keynote sessions. The Clubhouse saw a host of people coming in to ask about SDN, for TechEd T-shirts, and primarily checking emails at our Inernet Cafe. At the Clubhouse, we have four machines with Internet access and four network connections for people with laptops. There is no wireless access but nobody is complaining since most people are not carrying their laptops with them. The Internet cafe has usually had more people waiting to get access than the number of access points available.

I'm quite pleased with the brand recognition of SDN here and have received some very positive feedback from people. There are also some who do not know about SDN and have used other communities for gathering information around SAP products until now. It is a great opportunity for these people to learn more about SAP's official network platform for the developer community.

The Evening Program

The evening event catered to the cricket crazy Indian audience with a well known stage mimic who set the people rolling in laughter with his comic imitation of popular Indian cricket stars, politicians, and Bollywood movie personalities. There was also a cool live performance of English songs by a local singer/musician to go with the hot Indian dinner.

The Technical Track presentations and workshops start today. I'll be posting more photographs from the event later today. So keep checking the weblogs section!
