Having mostly worked in the EP one keeps discovering concepts from SAP world that seem out of this world. To old timers in SAP they exist as a matter of fact but for folks like me they are just WOW. IMG is such a concept.
On my last project we were integrating CRM with portal. Mostly my role in this kind of scenario would be to collaborate with BASIS team for SSO. Import Business Package(BP) for CRM, configure a set of iViews to be used from this BP, etc. One of the other activities was to make sure certain links on My Favourite Opportunities work, i.e. if you click on them they take you to the opportunity screen which is another portal page. This needed some entries to be made in CRM. And this is where IMG or transaction SPRO came into the picture. I got to know over here that with IMG you store all your configs in an environment and you can transport them from one environment(DEV->QA->PRD) to another.
Now this is nice. I could use something like this in EP space. I know we can move content from one environment to another. Themes can be moved and if you are brave enough you can move the KM layout and renderer's. But doesn't all this seem a bit fragmented? And what about the Systems I create in System Landscape or repository settings in KM? we can't even transport them. A single console to do all these things would be just perfect!
