Today the wait is over and the Enterprise Portal 6.0 has arrived on my desk.  It will be put to the test in the coming weeks by myself and other members of the team who are doing development and consulting based on the Enterprise Portal.  For now there is no client but a number of upgrades from version 5 and new installations ahead in 2004.  People said and hoped that version 5 would be the version that put the portals on the map inside the SAP world and it did.  Enterprise Portal 6 has bigger hopes behind it though.  With a whole new and improved look, latest technology such as web services and with companies mostly recovered from a IT overspend between 1999 and 2001 I think this will be a great year to be a Portal consultant.  To download the EP6 go to the service.sap.com/installations

I have been waiting for this too like every one else. So far I have downloaded and put it on my notebook (P3 1.0Ghz, 1 GB RAM) Install was a breeze with SAPInst. I have always liked the running install log of SAPInst. No more IIS quirks. And I can get away with not having LDAP.

    Cheers

EP6 PDK is not available as it used to be in EP5 as a different installation. Rather it is available now as a business package. Which means you have to have a EP6 instance installed and then you import the BP for PDK EP6 in it.

There is a discussion about this on the SDN at

Also Oliver wrote a nice article about PDK on EP6 which you can find at

How to use your PDK 60 on Enterprise Portal 6.0

        Hope this helps.

        Cheers

PS: If any one has information regarding if status of PDK has changed, or is going to be changed in near future it would be wonderful, as I am all for the little PDK like EP5.

    1. PDK for EP6 is available in form of Business Package. I believe, standalone PDK 6 is not in the plan…

You should take a look at his experience.  We haven´t yet had the time to install it ourselves despite being very interested indead in doing so.  Maybe we will have time next week!

I am a newbie to EP 6.0 installation and have no previous experience with EP.

I am in the process of installing EP 6.0 Sp2 on my windows 2000 workstation with 1 Gig RAM with 35 Gig hard drive space. Before I start the installation , I ran the analyzer to figure out if I am missing anything. The only thing the analyzer pointed out was that I will require an Oracle database for post-install configuration. Does the oracle database come with the EP 6.0 install ?? Also, Is WebAS-6.40 part of the EP 6.0 install as well ?? I have not started the installation yet since I am not sure about the oracle database installation !!
