Gold, Frankincense, Myrrh and E-mail Notifications

As described in the SAPinsider article linked to from this WebLog, SAP set out to make it even simpler to implement Business Workflow for customers with occasional users needing groupware integration – and SAP delivered this promise – AND at least one SAP customer has gone (effortlessly) live.
Technical details, including how to download the software during this pilot phase, are described in the Service Note 627397. For those of you in a hurry here’s a nutshell description of what is involved.

  1. This feature is server-based. No modification of existing code is needed. No installation of additional client software is needed.
  2. Single-sign on helps, but is not essential (the work items are sent as SAP shortcuts).
  3. No vendor-specific groupware integration is involved so it is particularly robust to groupware updates and is available for a wider variety of groupware vendors.
  4. During the pilot phase SAP consulting must be involved (even if this is only a short remote consulting session) to ensure smooth deployment.
  5. It is only available as far back as Release 4.6C of the SAP Web Application Server. If you are using Business Components based on the the Web AS 6.20 then you can expect additional enhancements later in 2004.

Merry Xmas and a Happy New E-mail-Activated-Year,
