First of all, I would like to welcome anyone taking the time to read this as this is my first web-log. I hope you not only find this mildly interesting but I also would like to encourage comments whenever possible.

With regards to application development with in SAP, we are at a very exciting time. More specifically, the whole concept of the Enterprise Services Architecture (ESA) has made possible the ability to build cross functional applications that were not easily possible before. Netweaver provide the platform for which these applications can be built. So, why is developing cross functional business applications exciting?

..at the expense of sounding too much like marketing…

Netweaver is quite a change in technology from previous Sap applications. It is based on a J2EE engine with a pure java persistence layer for business objects (Composite Application Framework), utilizes industry open standards such as web services, and utilizes a powerful user experience through Webdynpro screen generation. For a Java developer, this is quite cool as one can develop using the flexibility of java combined with the services that the ERP system can provide.

As my current project (SAP xApp Mergers and Acquisitions) begins development, it is going to be a very interesting experience as we will be utilizing a lot of these new features of Netweaver. We can only then see how exciting this will become…stay tuned!
