Hi
I am interested in doing an in place update from BusinessObjects 4.2 SP9 to the latest 4.3 version on a Windows Server.
Has anyone written a blog post / SAP note about how to do this ?
Is it easy to do, any License implications ?
Does the Server / Client software still need to match, so I would need to update from 4.2 SP9 clients to 4.3 clients, or can the client stay the same 4.2 SP9 but the server version is the latest 4.3 Service Pack.
Any Gotcha's I need to be aware of.
Thanks.
We upgraded from BI4.2 SP04 to BI4.3 SP03.
You do need new license keys for the server.
Although it's not recommended, BI4.2 clients can connect to a BI4.3 server (and vice-versa). We actually had to do this for a couple of months because we discovered a bug in the BI4.3 client software, and had to revert our desktops to the old version until we got a newer patch. Unless you're in a situation like this, I'd definitely recommend keeping the versions the same. If you're asking if you can have BI4.2 client software and BI4.3 server software installed on the same server, then that's not possible.
If you have any custom Java applications that use the BO SDK, then there are changes you'll need to make. There are changes to the SDK jar requirements, and also binaries that need to be included in the system path. Also, if you use Java program objects, there are changes to the impersonation settings.
