There continues to be articles, white papers, and even technology companies that are looking to provide tools around understanding of the true energy efficiency of cloud computing.     However, most of what’s said out there falls short in determining the true value.

The focus is on the obvious things.   If you leverage a cloud than you’re not building data centers and installing and operating servers locally, thus your energy consumption goes down.   I think we all get that.
